- They ensure that every worker has an exit assessment done on them and their performance. Often without the workers knowledge.
- By sending in a letter you can contact them and find out if you are on their register and what information they hold on you.

What is happening with Visa workers in WA?
- Many projects throughout the state are demanding the right to employ hundreds of visa workers by claiming they are experiencing a skills shortage.
- Both the federal and state governments are allowing visa workers to expand without adequate guarantees that the company or project has sought to fill the vacancies with Australian residents.
- Neither the federal nor state governments have ensured a mandatory number of apprentices, that must be employed by companies or projects, who are demanding access to overseas workers.
- We are demanding that both governments must be satisfied that every effort to employ and train local workers has been exhausted before they are given access to engaging visa workers.
- The ETU is demanding that a Resource Sector Skills Register be set up. If you support this position fill out the petition below.
- Further if you want to be included on the union register tick the box below and submit your information
What can we do to increase the number of apprentices and general commitment to training?
- The ETU is calling on both the federal and state government to commit to a mandated number of apprentices trained on all Resource Projects.
- The history of the past resource expansions highlighted the fact that Industry left to self-regulate will opt for the overseas quick fix solution before training apprentices.
- Further to requiring a commitment to training additional apprentices there must also be a commitment to up skilling those already in the workplace.
- As part of our skills needs we should be encouraging already skilled workers who have left the industry to return including offering skills refresher training.
- WA workers must be given the opportunity to be trained for the future

ETU WA demands improved R & R cycle
- On major resource projects the blue collar workforce is expected to be away from home on a 28 days on 7 day off roster. Whilst management gives staff shorter rosters ie 14 days on 7 days off.
- Employers are concerned about employee burn out and labour turnover cost yet they will not address the major factor that the roster cycle is far too long.
- Unlike the past where workers lived away from home irregularly most are now experiencing projects running into each other and therefore working away from home year after year.
- The ETU and its members on resource construction projects in WA are calling for a 20 days on 10 days off roster, thus maximising earning capacity with improved family time.
- I urge you to support the shorter R & R cycle campaign and sign the petition below.
